Arriving by plane

There are several airports in the vicinity of Portorož, which provide good connections to Europe and beyond. Ljubljana (Slovenia)Trieste (Italy)Venice (Italy)Treviso (Italy)Pula (Croatia) and Zagreb (Croatia) airports are all relatively close by, while low-cost airlines operate on most of them.

Airport transfer

A well-organized shuttle service, GoOpti, operates between all airports and Koper, providing the most economical and time-efficient transportation. 

Arriving from Airport Ljubljana

For traveling from the Trieste Airport to Koper you can travel by car, shuttle service GoOpti or you can use the public transport.

If you are arriving by car, follow the highway E61 in the direction Ljubljana and then for Koper. You can rent a car at the airport at different companies, for example Hertz (tel. 04/ 20 16 999). The entire list of providers can be found here: https://www.lju-airport.si/en/transport/rent-a-car/

You can also take the bus from the Ljubljana Airport to Ljubljana city center. The bus schedule can be found on their here: https://www.lju-airport.si/en/transport/bus/

There are buses driving from the central bus and train station in Ljubljana to Koper. The bus schedule can be queried on the website of the central station: http://www.ap-ljubljana.si/en/

Arriving from Airport Trieste (Friuli Venezia Giulia)

For traveling from the Trieste Airport to Koper you can travel by car, shuttle service GoOpti or you can use the public transport.

If you are arriving by car, follow the highway A4 in the direction Trieste. From the highway take the exit Slovenia - Rabuiese (Škofije) and then follow the signs for  Koper (Capodistria). You can also take the bus (bus nr. 51) from the Trieste Airport to Trieste central bus station where you can take a direct bus to Koper. Local bus information can be found here: https://triesteairport.it/en/autobus/

You can continue to Koper either by car or by using the public transport.

 

Arriving by train and bus 

Koper has a central bus and a train station, both options offer good connection to numerous cities in Europe.

Depending on the origin of your arrival, you may find connecting bus routes through bus stations in Ljubljana (Slovenia) or Trieste (Italy), if you are unable to find direct fares to Koper. 

Slovenian railroads will take you to and from Koper to most European cities via Ljubljana.

Germany, Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Switzerland, all are connected via direct routes with Ljubljana. A ride from Munich to Koper starts at € 40, while you can even reach Koper by train from Frankfurt for € 70.  More information regarding train transfers and timetables is available here
